Shira Kammen and Peter Maund
A new concert series co-produced by SFEMS and the Jazzschool begins on October 6 with Touchstone, an ensemble featuring Shira Kammen and Peter Maund, and the organizers could scarcely have provided a more auspicious beginning. The two have been frequent collaborators over the past 30 years, most notably with the late, great Ensemble Alcatraz.
Besides their legendary work in medieval music, Kammen and Maund are fluent in the languages of many musical cultures, from Ireland to Iran, and much of what lies between. They have played with a wide range of semi-improvisatory groups representing these traditions, as well as crossovers, such as the jazzclassical-Jewish roots group Davka, with which Peter performed, and The Lost Mode, with which Shira appeared on the SFEMS series last year.
