Judge Marie (known around town as The Hon. Marie Bertillion Collins or sometimes just as Marie Collins) is one of our early music community’s strongest supporters and a member of the SFEMS board of directors.  Her dedication, drive and hard work is an inspiration to all of as at SFEMS.

Biography: Deputy District Attorney; private law practice; Judge, Alameda County Superior Court; Dean, California Judicial College; Board member, Alameda County Bar; Criminal Courts Bar; Alameda County Judges Association; California Judges Association; President, Queens Bench; President, USF Law Society; Chair, California Women Judges; National Association of Women Judges; Fellow, American Bar Foundation. Stephens College, University of California, University of San Francisco School of Law.

Other volunteer activities: Currently serves on boards of Early Music America, The San Francisco Early Music Society, Berkeley Symphony, Cal Performances, Friends of Berkeley Festival (chair), Merola Opera Program. Past boards include Goodwill Industries, California Historical Society, Alameda County Mental Health Association, Vocare, George Wright Society, Oakland Symphony, Alameda county Criminal Justice Planning Board (4 years chair) and various state and regional commission and advisory boards in the fields of prison and jail management and construction, women’s issues, mental health, securities regulation and consumer fraud.
