“Recently I had the privilege of playing at a Kaiser hospital, and once again witnessed the power of music to connect across all boundaries. I was playing in the surgery ward, right outside the room of an older woman in enormous and vocal pain. There was much commotion and debate over her diagnosis. Her elderly husband was clearly very stressed and struggling to understand what was going on. Once some of the confusion dissipated, he came over to me and shared how much the music was helping him, calming him and letting him feel something beautiful for a while. I was so touched that he took the time to speak with me and offer warmth in the midst of his terrible worry. Such is the power of music to unite and comfort all.”
