On Saturday, February 12, 2011, 4-6 p.m. there will be a gala benefit reception for The San Francisco Early Music Society hosted by the SFEMS Board of Directors and John Shepard (Head Librarian of the Hargrove Music Library).

The reception will be held at the 44th California International Antiquarian Book Fair San Francisco Concourse Exhibition Center, 635 8th Street (at Brannan Street).

Don’t miss this unique opportunity for a private viewing of the stellar special exhibit of rare musical books and manuscripts from the Jean Gray Hargrove Music Library of the University of California at Berkeley.

Gala wine and hors d’oeuvres are included, as well as music provided by noted SFEMS members and affiliates.

Admission to the Fair throughout the weekend; Friday, February 11-Sunday, February 13, 2011.  Well known as the largest antiquarian book fair in the world, with about 240 booksellers from a dozen countries, this year’s Fair includes a major theme on early music books, manuscripts, and musical autographs, as well as hundreds of other subject specialties.
  2. Reserved seating at 3 pm Saturday lecture: “The Abduction from the Scenario”, on collecting early music and musical autographs, by Donald W. Krummel, one of the world’s authorities on the subject and Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois.
