July 31-August 5, 2011

Come to the 2011 Music Discovery Workshop, a summer day camp for kids exploring the music and culture of the Renaissance. Join the Music Discovery campers as we explore life and music in 15th century Italy with our guide Leonardo da Vinci, THE Renaissance man!

Take classes in violin, recorder, harpsichord, viola da gamba, and cello. Dance the basse danse, act in a play, make da Vinci-inspired crafts, have a great week!

Our week at the Crowden Center for Music in the Community starts with an orientation and faculty concert on Sunday evening, July 31. The fun continues with classes from 9-3 Monday to Friday and ends with a performance by the classes and the theater project and a sumptuous potluck feast on Friday evening.

In addition to working with Theater Project Director Allison Rolls in an exploration of life in 15th century Italy, your children can study cello or viola da gamba with Farley Pearce, violin with Carla Moore, recorder with Louise Carslake, and harpsichord with Ron McKean. Child-friendly theory and musicianship classes, Renaissance dance class, crafts, and outdoor games round out the curriculum.
