We have a wonderful opportunity to support the growth of SFEMS and participate in an exciting event, the largest antiquarian book fair in America, made possible by our member Michael Hackenberg. See a private showing of early music manuscripts exhibited for the first time outside the UC campus; visit hundreds of booksellers at a sale featuring historical music materials; meet John Shepherd, head of the Jean Hargrove music library; hear music generously provided from SFEMS affiliate groups in a festive setting with drinks and food, surrounded by early music lovers. I look forward to seeing you there enjoying yourselves, boosting SFEMS as it steps forward to a stronger future.  — Marie Collins, Chair

Admission to the Fair throughout the weekend: Friday, February 11 through Sunday, February 13, 2011.  Well known as the largest antiquarian book fair in the world, with about 240 booksellers from a dozen countries, this year’s Fair includes a major theme on early music books, manuscripts, and musical autographs, as well as hundreds of other subject specialties.

Reserved seating at 3 pm Saturday lecture: “The Abduction from the Scenario,” on collecting early music and musical autographs, by Donald W. Krummel, one of the world’s authorities on the subject and Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois.
