SFEMS Music Discovery classes for adults

“The Many Moods of Johann Sebastian Bach,” a lecture series by John Prescott.
Few composers have explored the range of human emotion as Bach did. Come on a voyage of discovery through the vocal and instrumental music of this giant among musical giants. Five days of instruction, no previous musical experience necessary.
Register for either the full course ($85/$80 SFEMS members) or for individual days ($20 each).

Day 1: “The maestro in his element.” John Prescott lectures on Bach as a performer and composer at the keyboard.

Day 2:  “From court to coffee house.” John Prescott lectures on Bach’s secular orchestral and vocal music.

Day 3:  “The intimate world of Bach’s solo and chamber music.” Lecture by John Prescott

Day 4:Opera in church?” John Prescott lectures on the drama of Bach’s sacred vocal music.

Day 5: “Sons and heirs.” John Prescott lectures on the musical legacy of Bach’s family.

“From the Beginning! Cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach.” The Society’s 6th annualchoral workshop explores the opening choruses of selected Bach cantatas. Dr.Flight will lead the workshop in rehearsing choruses from Cantata 4, Christ lag inTodesbanden; Cantata 6, Bleib bei uns, denn is will Abend werden; Cantata 21, Ich hatteviel Bekümmernis; Cantata 75, Die Elenden sollen essen; and Cantata 78, Jesu der dumeine Seele. With the assistance of the CBS rehearsal accompanist, Gwen Adams.
