“The Far Famed Ones—Poetry and Music of the Vikings” Tim Rayborn, voice, Saami shamanic drum, deerskin rattle, Baltic overtone flute, Nordic lyre, bone flute, 9th-century citole, and the gue (a Shetlandic bowed lyre), performs a program of myth, poetry, ritual, and music from the ancient spiritual and cultural traditions of Northern Europe, including both reconstructed works and surviving pieces from the Viking Age (the 8th through the 12th centuries). The program features works from the Poetic Edda and the Sagas, as well as early medieval and traditional melodies from Iceland, Norway, Shetland, Byzantium, the Orkneys, and elsewhere.
